Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) is a low-dose form of naltrexone, a medication that has been used for many years in much higher doses to treat opioid and alcohol dependence. At standard doses, naltrexone works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain.
When used at very low doses, typically a fraction of the standard dose, naltrexone appears to have different effects. In this low-dose range, it is thought to temporarily block opioid receptors, leading to a rebound increase in the body’s own endorphins and modulation of immune and inflammatory pathways.
